Kushtia became a district on 16 August 1947. Kushtia district was first included in the Rajshahi division and later in the Khulna division. Kushtia Sadar Upazila is the lifeblood of Kushtia District. Establishing rail link with Calcutta in 180, Renwick and Jagneshwar Engineering Factory, Mohini Mills was established at Kushtia Sadar. Kushtia Sadar Upazila has been producing paddy, jute, sugarcane and various vegetables and crops since the beginning.An ancient mosque on Chowdhury's house in Jhaudia village under Kushtia Sadar upazila is a particularly significant monument of Kushtia Sadar upazila. Inside this mosque in Jhaudia, there are wonderful examples of Mughal art. The mosque of Jhaudiya was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Such a beautifully decorated mosque is rarely seen. The mosque has a large dome and many medium and small domes. The traditional Kushtia Sugar Mills is located in Jagati of Kushtia Sadar Upazila.With the development of BSIC industrial city in this upazila, many industrial establishments have been established here. Among them, BRB Group of Industries has gained national and international reputation. With the establishment of Islamic University in this upazila, on the one hand, the teachers of all the districts of Bangladesh including Kushtia district have been exposed.Similarly, the heritage of Kushtia Sadar Upazila has multiplied. In 1971, the Pak army fought with the heroic freedom fighters of Kushtia Sadar Upazila at different places. The battle took place in Kushtia Sadar Upazila under Sector 7. Among them Bangshitala of Ujangram Union and Karimpur of Abdalpur Union are notable. Kushtia Sadar Upazila Brttipara slaughterhouse is a significant slaughterhouse in Bangladesh.
