Background of the upazila

Kushtia Sadar Upazila is located in the center of Kushtia district. According to Syed Mortuza Ali, Kushtia was named after Kosta (jute). Until 1947, the name of the present Kushtia district was Nadia. Due to administrative difficulties, the then district magistrate and historian Syed Mortuza Ali introduced the present Kushtia district after the district headquarters. People call Kushtia Kushte permanently. All activities including past, present, education, agriculture, culture, history-tradition, struggle, politics, industrial trade are being conducted in Kushtia district centered on Sadar upazila consisting of 6 upazilas.
