Functions of Upazila Parishad

1. To make five-year and various term development plans.

2. To implement the programs of various government departments handed over to the council and to supervise and coordinate the activities of those departments.

3. Construction, repair and maintenance of inter-union connecting roads.

4. Upazila Parishad adopts and implements small scale irrigation projects as per the directions of the government to ensure optimal use of surface water resources.

5. Ensuring public health, nutrition and family planning services.

6. Improving sanitation and drainage system and adopting drinking water supply system in soup.

7. (A) provide incentives and support for the expansion of education at the upazila level;

   (B) Supervise the activities of the concerned institutions and provide assistance to them in order to improve the quality of secondary education and madrasa education activities.

8. To undertake activities for the establishment and development of small scale industries.

9. To provide assistance and co-ordinate the work of co-operative societies and non-governmental voluntary organizations.

10. Privately support women, children, social welfare and youth, sports and cultural activities.

11. Activation and implementation of development of agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forest resources privately.

12. After reviewing the overall law and order situation of the upazila, the report is regularly sent to the higher authorities including the district law and order committee.

13. To create self-employment and to implement the program on its own initiative for poverty alleviation and to provide necessary assistance to the government in implementing the program both publicly and privately.

14. Coordinating and inspecting the development activities of the Union Parishad and providing necessary assistance.

15. Taking other preventive measures including creating public opinion against crimes like acid throwing, violence against women and children.

16. Taking other preventive measures including creation of public opinion against the occurrence of crimes like militancy, terrorism, theft, robbery, smuggling, drug use etc.

17. Undertake other activities including social forestry for the purpose of environmental protection and development.

18. Coordination of all work related to disaster management.

19. Collaboration with other organizations performing similar functions of Upazila Parishad.

20 Introducing and promoting e-governance.

21. Other functions assigned by the Government from time to time.
